Glen Line
The Glen Line was a Scottish shipping line. ==History== The firm had its roots in the co-operation between the Gow and McGregor families in Glasgow in the 1850s. Alan C. Gow was a voyage broker and James McGregor organised the freight to fill the ships. By 1860 they were in partnership and in 1867, Alan Gow had the sailing ship ''Estrella de Chile'' built to ply the route between Glasgow, Liverpool, and Chile via Cape Horn but the ship was wrecked in 1888. The barque ''Glenavon'' was acquired in 1868 which was the first time the Glen prefix was used on the firm's ships.〔(GLEN LINE. ) ''The Red Duster''. Retrieved 28 October 2015.〕 In 1881, the firm had the iron steamer the ''Glenavon'' built but it was wrecked off the Chinese coast in 1898.〔http://books.google.com/books?id=Spj9AwAAQBAJ&pg=PA14〕
